Methodology for Sustainable Grassland Management (SGM)

The methodology provides procedures to estimate the GHG emission reductions and/or removals from the adoption of sustainable grassland management (SGM) practices on grasslands in semi-arid regions. Eligible project activities include a broad range of SGM activities such as improving the rotation of grazing animals, limiting the grazing of animals on degraded pastures and restoration of severely degraded lands. Where biogeochemical models can be demonstrated to be applicable in the project region, they may be used to estimate SOC pool changes.

Leakage from Displacement of Grazing Activities

The module provides procedures to estimate activity shifting leakage in project activities where there may be displacement of grazing activity due to the adopting sustainable grassland management practices from the project areas to areas outside the project area. The module provides step-wise procedures to determine whether the lands to which grazing will be relocated are identified or unidentified.

Afforestation/Reforestation of Agricultural Lands

The proposed AFOLU ARR methodology is intended to determine baseline and project related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions & carbon pools for projects that convert agricultural and grazing lands to forest plantations. The methodology includes modules for determining (or alternatively excluding) a number of carbon pools including: above-ground biomass, below-ground biomass, dead wood, litter, soil organic carbon and wood products. It also considers the GHG effects of the burning of biomass, if present.

General Methodology for Quantifying the Greenhouse Gas Emission Reductions from the Production and Incorporation of Soil of Biochar in Agricultural and Forest Management Systems

This methodology applies to projects that increase the carbon stocks in soils by treating crop residues or other biomass produced as part of agricultural activities or forest management through controlled pyrolysis. The resulting carbon rich residue is applied to soils. Due to the project activity, net GHG emissions from cropland, grassland or managed forest land will be reduced by increasing carbon stocks in soils.

Estimation of uncertainty for REDD project activities (X-UNC), v2.1

This module allows for estimating uncertainty in baseline estimations and in estimations of with-project sequestration, emissions and leakage.

The module was revised on 31 July 2012 by The Field Museum to improve uncertainty estimates in the unplanned deforestation baseline scenario (v2.0).

This module provides methods for monitoring ex-post emissions and removals of GHGs due to deforestation, forest degradation and carbon stock enhancement that has been induced as a result of project implementation within the project area and leakage belt. The module shall also be used for developing an ex-ante estimate of the respective output parameters.

This module was assessed and approved as part of VM0007.
